We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Department of Cellular Pathology. The successful candidate must have completed the Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology or have significant experience to demonstrate competency to that level. Consideration will also be given to Band 5 BMS staff that are able to demonstrate completion of their Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology and have competence in specimen dissection.

The primary role is to act as a specialist, registered Biomedical Scientist providing a diagnostic service to clinicians and other users as an aid to diagnosis and treatment; to undertake to a high standard the scientific work of the laboratory, analysing initial findings and identifying further action; undertake specimen dissection, as authorised by the Consultant Histopathologist and lead sections within the department.

The overriding purpose is to deliver outstanding healthcare for our patients and communities through personal actions and continuous improvement.

The department has sections of routine Histopathology, Non-Gynae Cytology, Andrology, Immunohistochemistry and Mortuary and has an establishment of 5 Consultant staff and 11 BMS staff supported by a small team of laboratory assistants and secretariat.

The Department has full UKAS accreditation and HCPC/IBMS training status and CPD participation is actively encouraged. The successful applicant will be contracted to work 5 out of 7 days. The payment scheme is in line with Agenda for Change terms and conditions.

The successful applicant must:

Be HCPC registered
Have significant experience working in a Cellular Pathology Laboratory with sufficient knowledge to demonstrate competence in the Specialist portfolio or equivalent for Cellular Pathology.
Knowledge and experience in specimen dissection is essential.
Have experience of sectional leadership within a Histopathology service with good organisational and interpersonal skills.
HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientists who have completed the IBMS Specialist portfolio or have equivalent experience will be considered for appointment at Band 6.
