The Biochemistry department across MFT is one of the largest Biochemistry departments in the country and we are looking for enthusiastic, aspirational and highly motivated Biomedical Scientist to join our Trafford Biochemistry laboratory.

The laboratory is well equipped with Roche Cobas analysers (c501’s, e601’s) and a Roche p512 pre analytic system, as well as Bio-Rad D100, Werfen GEM 5000 and some manual testing. The department actively invests in staff development offering support and encouragement in CPD with the opportunity to attend approved seminars and external courses when available.

Suitable candidates must have an IBMS accredited BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent, HCPC registration and post-registration Biochemistry experience and also have experience of working out of hours. The role will involve routine processing of analytical samples, training and development of the support staff, and involvement in maintaining protocols on the section in line with ISO 15189 such as reagent control, documentation, quality assurance, audit processes and general overall performance.

You will be based at the Trafford General Hospital site and participate within a rotational shift pattern which will include shifts 7 days per week, although currently the laboratory at Trafford is not 24 hours. Shift patterns will be determined by your line manager and you are required to work your contracted hours as and when necessary to meet the service needs of the department.

Candidates must be in possession of an IBMS specialist portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry or equivalent, however, candidates working towards their specialist portfolio may be considered for appointment at band 5.

The department has full HCPC training status for pre and post registration IBMS portfolios and full ISO 15189 accreditation.
